FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA (WSVN) -- Opening doors for the nation's veterans and their families was the driving force behind a fundraiser held in Fort Lauderdale, Friday night.
AutoNation and Mercedes-Benz USA hosted the event at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. It began with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and a live auction.
The keynote speaker was U.S. Army Gen. David Perkins. "It's very important for our nation to understand the sacrifices our soldiers make, understand the sacrifices their families make, and never forget them." he said.
Fox Business Network anchor Liz Claman hosted the fundraiser. "Florida always steps up to the plate and hits a home run when it comes to generosity," she said.
The event raised $600,000 for the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund, which helps vets, their spouses and their children receive the financial support they need to further their education.
